It has been a battle of the storms.  One nice day followed by 2 days of wind and rain.  Nicole and I decided to drive to Chattanooga Friday after the storms to try and get a start on the 4.5 hour drive.  It was a great evening, grabbed some dinner at the Big River Brewery and relaxed at the Mellow Mushroom before tackling two days at altitude.  We left Chat. Saturday morning at about 9 after stopping at Starbucks for some coffee.  We found a great spot to camp by the river and it was off, up the climbs; 2200 ft from our camp to the Blue Ridge PWY.  I rode close to 3.5 hrs and about 6000 ft of climbing, despite the cloudy and dreary day.  Sunday was beautiful, left camp and climbed up to the Blue Ridge for the third time, followed the parkway to it's highest point and waited for Nicole.  We rode together for about 2 hrs then I was off again.  I put in an additional hour to total about 4.5 hours for the day and about 7000 ft of climbing.  I hope that is enough for the big mtns in NM.

Nicole and I had a great weekend.  She is bruised from toe to hip, but getting alot better on the mtn bike.  We had great weather and great trails.  Nicole did about 19 miles, finishing her first sport class mtn bike race.  The Pro class did about 33 miles with me leading up the first climb and into the single track; did I mention last mtn race I cannot turn those fat tires? Same thing.  Too much accelerating and decelerating just wore me out.  I faded all day and finished a couple minutes back in 7th place.  If you have not ridden Tsali, you need to.

What a fun weekend, got some flowers, herbs, & vegies planted and raced in TN on the mountain bike.  We left early on Sunday morning in the cold and wind.  Nicole raced sport class, but the conditions were not to her liking.  A couple of falls and tired from battling the mud she was done after about 8 miles.  She had fun, and defintely a learning experience.  Myself, I found out, that I can not turn a mtn bike.  The wheels are too fat and they slide on the mud, trees come at you really fast and chewing a granola bar on a trail is really hard and you can choke on it.  All and all a good race, there were about 30 pros, I think.  I finished 5th.  Too technical for a mtn biker turned roadie turned mtn biker.  Good times, and better to spend it with people you love.  More pictures in my gallery.

Thank you to Steve for loaning us his cabin for the weekend.  This is the top of Neals Gap, or blood Mountain, we ran into a group of kids from Northwestern, and I guess Brown, on spring break.  We had a great weekend over 15,000 ft of climbing, close to 250 miles in 3 days. I had great company, in one of the most beautiful places on earth.   Almost ready for Tour of the Gila.

The Team is coming together.  Check out the new duds, actually last years Tristar kits, but change the white to black and you will be close to this years Kits.  We had about 5 of us in the A race, including one junior(Wesley Matthews).
We need a tire sponsor, please. Travis flatted on the start line, I flatted a tuby 3 weeks ago, somebody help.
It was a fun day of racing, 53 miles rolling hills fighting the wind, then finishing on a 10% grade for a mile.  We started but quickly built into a group of about eight, last lap the group wittled down to a group of 3, did I mention the wind?  The last about 7 miles I soloed in and finished 2 to 3 minutes up on Wes from Tria.  Beautiful day of racing, Thank you.
