I got 6th in the World Cup RR on Sunday the 23rd of August.  The following is the start of the TT on Wednesday the 26th.

20K TT 24:19 - 1st place, the margin from 1st to 2nd was .94 seconds.

The podium.  It was a long wait for the last finishers, but still a great victory.  Thank you to everybody who made this happen, and a special thanks to my brother for coming out and supporting me.  He ended up picking up all my stuff after the race and turned out to be a great asset to me.

Sorry no pictures of the UCI RR on the 31st.  The final result was 5th.  Better luck next year, here is a link to all the results:  http://www.masterswm.org/v4/?start/en///////////////////

PostHeaderIcon American Red Cross Ride

It always feels good to help a good cause.  Although, it was very early for me, and only one cup of joe, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

The last two years I have been donating some time to raise money for the American Red cross.  It is great to bring people together for two great causes, helping people and cycling.  Hunter, who purchased the ride, is a great man with a big heart, and I bet he can beat most of you up a climb (I will only tell you that he is older then 60 and in great shape).

We rode about 40 miles with one good climb.  I could not have asked for a better conversationalist, we talked the whole time, except the climb where he asked me if I was breathing.

We finished by strolling back to the cars and shaking hands.  Thank you Hunter and if you need anything just ask.  Trainhard Mike

RR:  Well I hope by the photo you can tell what happened.  It was a great event with over 100 particapants.  This is the finish you are seeing.  After 98 miles it came down to an 11 man sprint.  It was great, but it still does not feel real.

Thank you warp 9 bikes for the great ride, Tristar for putting me in Bend, OR, and everybody else that made this happen, you will see most of them on the left side of this page.

I just look mean in this photo.  And Travis is right, I need to learn to zip my jersey.

TT:  No Photos, but the same result.  38K I don't kow what to say, like the RR, it is still sinking in.

Tuesday Stage 1 (72 miles Flat):  I think I would have called this stage flat to rolling, and let's call this a training day, and a day to learn from your mistakes.  I initiated the break looking for KOM points.  I was in third spot with about 400 meters to the KOM, didn't feel great, but watch Chris B roll up the road and take the sprint.  I watched, what is wrong with me?  Too much stress leading up to the race, I don't know.  Then to make it worse, I looked back to see the field coming, so I sat up.  Well part of the field was coming.  Maybe you can tell by the tone, the break I initiated stayed away and I lost alot of time.  Live and learn, there is always tomorrow.

The break launches off the front and starts to get a gap on the field.

Wednesday Stage 2 (80 miles w/ hill top finish on MT Bachlor): Well, a little better, we went flat out for the first 50 miles and averaged just under 30 mph.  The finish climb started steep and then leveled off.  My lungs felt good, but the legs had no power.  I finished 30th on the stage and am sitting 34th overall.  But this is stage racing, and I will see if I can continue to move up the GC as the week goes by.  At least it is a TT tomorrow.

Thursday Stage 3 (16 mile TT):  Short and sweet, 23rd on the day, 22nd in GC.  I am slowly moving up.  We profiled the course for tomorrow, and it is going to be tough.  I will try to get some pictures as I find them.
Friday stage 4 (82 miles, deciding Stage, two big cimbs):  Well not deciding, but very hard.  We hit the first climb and the field blew apart, which in turned out did not matter because the field would come back together.  The last climb hurt, but did not create the gaps I thought it would.  I lost just under minute and 2 GC spots, but that is racing.  I have not felt great all week.  I hope to have some fitness next week for Nats.  Time for a morning ride and help Will with his TT.
Saturday Stage 5 (90 minute crit):  Formality, but here is a post to the results:  http://www.mbsef.org/CascadeCyclingClassic/Results/2009/index.cfm
Sunday Stage 6 (83 mile circuit race):  Final results:  http://www.mbsef.org/CascadeCyclingClassic/Results/2009/index.cfm I had a much bettter day Sunday, finishing 13th on the day and 21st in the overall.  It was good to see the Ellites RR course, it is going to be a tough day on Thursday.  Thank you for following, and I will update you on Nats as it happens.

Heading out on today's loop.
